Important for a successful brand are repetitive design elements, colour code and recognizable shapes of the machines. Brands such as Arburg and Engel manage to successfully create a recognizable portfolio.
However, colour is not always used proportionally and not as a highlight for active or dangerous parts of the machine. The lighter and fresher colour scheme of the Arburg machines make them look modern and high-tech. On the other hand, brands such as Nestal and Battenfeld often use colours in different tones or such, which do not apply to the brand and make the machine hardly recognizable.
At first, I spent time developing ideas by my own, where I imagined and sketched out different shapes and forms to establish variants, which could later be discussed. Important was that the design is stable, but not too heavy and grounded. Also, developing unique elements, which could be repeated in future products. We continued with a brainstorm session with the team.
The sketches with most potential were then translated into quick CAD models. Then, we continued our discussion to what elements had potential and offered a unique design language, which could be successfully applied to other products. I then continued developing a shape, which combined the forms, we saw potential in. Throughout the design process, I was able to receive feedback on a daily basis from the team.
Strong contrasts between the main bodies and the base determine the picture. All technical components are hidden in the base and are easily accessible via removable panels in the event of an inspection. The large-format sliding door with edged panoramic safety glass enables the best possible accessibility and visibility of the workpiece.
The brand colour is used strategically, providing a balance between the high contrasting white and anthracite.
More often than not, Injection Moulding Machines are lined up in big halls. This is why the back side of the machine has space for naming (in this case numbers), so communication between operators inside the hall can be easier.
The big screen allows for the operator to see from a distance or operate with gloves on when necessary. The display can be rotated, depending on the side it is needed.
